Daufuskie Autumn Festival This event celebrates the culture of Gullah/Geeche nation (descendants of African slaves indigenous to regions in and surrounding the country of Angola). Participating in this event for the last two years has given me an annual opportunity to remove myself from city life for a few days and hear stories about the good old days. BareBones Film Festival As a featured performer for this event, I made my first trip to Oklahoma! Things I learned: 1. Locals don't like to be called "Okies." 2. You can eat peanuts and throw the shells on the floor in bars and restaurants. 3. "Darla" is a much more common name there than it is in Los Angeles. 4. The terrain is super flat. 5. They have better bar fights than in Los Angeles. 16 photos |
